In this episode, originally recorded April 30th, 2021, host Meaghan McCormack of the St. Bernard Economic Development Foundation sits down with Brandy Christian, President & CEO of the Port of New Orleans and CEO of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, and Drew Heaphy, Executive Director at the St. Bernard Port, Harbor, and Terminal District, to talk about the potential development of the container port in Violet, LA.

For the past five years, local maritime leaders have recognized the region’s rich maritime history and honored its hardworking men and women by celebrating “Maritime Month” each May, with National Maritime Day taking place on May 22.

“The St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District recently entered into a long-term lease agreement with one of the parish’s largest companies,” said Port Executive Director Drew Heaphy.

American Sugar Refining, Inc. (ASR), a member of ASR Group and owner of the Domino® Sugar Chalmette Refinery, signed a 10-year lease for an 80,000 square-foot warehouse facility at the Port’s Chalmette Terminal.

The Board of Commissioners of the St. Bernard Port, Harbor & Terminal District have reached an agreement and unanimously voted to approve the conveyance of a property in Violet, LA to the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) for a potential new container terminal. For St. Bernard Port, the conveyance is part of the resolution of long-standing litigation surrounding the property.
